Questions About Short Term Accommodation

We know arranging a short term stay can feel overwhelming, especially if it is your first time. Here are clear answers to the questions families ask us most often.

Short Term Accommodation (STA) is the NDIS term for what was previously known as respite care. It refers to funded temporary stays away from your usual home, typically for a few days up to a couple of weeks at a time. The NDIS funds STA under the "Assistance with Daily Life" budget, and it can be used for carer breaks, transition periods, or emergency situations.
For planned respite stays, we recommend booking at least two to four weeks in advance so we can properly match the participant with the right home and support team. However, we understand that emergencies happen, and we do our best to accommodate urgent requests within 24 to 48 hours when availability allows.
Yes, we actively encourage it. We can arrange an in-person tour or a video call walkthrough so the participant can see the home, ask questions, and meet the staff before their stay. This helps reduce anxiety and makes the actual transition much smoother for everyone involved.
We provide bedding, towels, meals, and basic toiletries. Participants should bring personal items such as clothing, favourite comfort items, medications, and any specialised equipment they use. Before the stay, we send a detailed checklist so nothing important gets forgotten and families feel fully prepared.
The NDIS generally funds up to 28 days of STA per year, though this varies based on individual plans and assessed needs. These days can be used flexibly, for example as fourteen separate two-night stays or fewer longer blocks. We help you understand your remaining balance and plan stays accordingly to maximise the value of your funding.
We have experience supporting participants with a wide range of complex needs, including those with positive behaviour support plans. During the booking process, we review all relevant documentation and ensure our staff are briefed and trained on specific strategies. We work closely with behaviour support practitioners to maintain consistency during the stay.

A Comfortable Stay Is One Call Away

Whether you are planning a carer break, need transition housing, or are facing an unexpected situation, we are here to help. Our team responds quickly and handles every detail with care.
