what is the NDIS

Who Is Eligible for NDIS?

We Love NDIS Registered

To be eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), a person needs to meet a few key requirements:

● Residency: Applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.

● Age: You need to be under 65 years of age when applying.

● Disability: Your disability must be permanent and must have a significant impact on your ability to take part in everyday activities or require ongoing support.

● Early Intervention: Children under 9 may also qualify if they have a developmental delay or a condition that could lead to long-term disability.

● Location: You must live in an area where the NDIS is currently available.

These requirements help ensure that people who need support can access the right services through the NDIS, improving independence and overall quality of life.

Understanding NDIS and Its Impact

Established in 2013, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was created to make sure people with disabilities can access the supports they genuinely need. Through funded services like therapy, personal care, and essential equipment, the NDIS acts as a strong support system that helps individuals live more independent and meaningful lives.

Recent findings from the NDIA’s participant outcomes survey show clear progress:

  • Across all age groups, participants reported noticeable improvements in their daily lives.
  • For young children, parents saw strong developmental gains 91% within the first year, increasing to 96% after three years.
  • Participants in older age brackets experienced more independence, rising from 62% to 72% over four years, along with a boost in personal control (from 71% to nearly 80%).
  • Satisfaction with daily living supports increased from 74% to 85.5% among older participants.
  • Employment for participants aged 15 to 24 grew from 12% to 26%, showing a promising shift toward economic inclusion.
  • Community involvement also rose across the board, demonstrating stronger social engagement and connection.
